MAD DOC® SOFTWARE CEO APPOINTED TO
THE JOURNAL OF GAME DEVELOPMENT
EDITORIAL BOARD

BOSTON, MA - AUGUST 30, 2004 - Mad Doc® Software, LLC (Mad Doc), today announced that Dr. Ian Lane Davis, Mad Doc CEO, is a newly appointed Editorial Board Member for the recently launched Journal of Game Development (JOGD). Charles River Media, the leading publisher of game development books, released the first issue of the JOGD in March.

The editorial board for the JOGD is spearheaded by leaders in the field, with editor-in-chief, Michael van Lent, at the helm. Dr. Davis, former Technical Director at Activision Publishing Studios, is widely acknowledged as one of the top Artificial Intelligence experts in the video game industry. A trusted advisor to some of the most important publishers in the gaming arena, Davis is active in the gaming community, serving as a Peer Panel Leader for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Peer Panel for Gameplay Engineering. An author and highly sought speaker, Davis presents in academic and game-focused venues, and is frequently interviewed by the media.

“I’ve long been a proponent of academia and the gaming industry converging wisely and well,” Davis notes. “The AI we’re applying in the gaming arena would be well-served in other applications, just as the research driving academia would advance the gaming community. That the two aren’t yet meeting seems a shame.” He continues, “I’m especially proud to accept the appointment to the JOGD board and am excited about what the journal stands for. With the gaming industry at the forefront of technical advancements, and with game-related research picking up steam in academia, it simply makes sense that the two join forces. I see the JOGD as helping that process along.”

Published quarterly, the JOGD provides an outlet for peer-reviewed research, with a focus on game-related issues. It covers broad game development related areas: from artificial intelligence, mathematics, physics, multiplayer games, and programming – to graphics, audio, simulation, polygonal techniques, real-time issues, and more. Other areas of importance and application for these findings include robotics, visualization, and grid computing.

The JOGD serves both the game development industry and the academic community. It presents leading-edge, original research, as well as the theoretical underpinnings that detail the most recent findings in related academic disciplines.

Charles River Media, Inc. publishes technical books for computing professionals in the areas of game development, computer graphics, programming, electrical and computer engineering, networking, and the Internet. The JOGD is published quarterly and accepts papers continuously. Further information on the JOGD is available at: www.jogd.com.
