titles for years. Mad Doc was founded in 1999 by Dr. Ian Davis with the
goal of developing major titles that expand the game playing experience
and broaden the market through creative use of new Networking,
Graphics, and AI technologies (Empire Earth® II uses Mad Doc’s
Mad3D™ Game Engine and MadAI™ technologies). An emerging force in the
computer games industry, Mad Doc consists of industry veterans with
experience in every aspect of game development and an unmatched
expertise in Artificial Intelligence. A registered Xbox®, Xbox 360™ and
PlayStation®3 developer with a proven record of strong game design and
on-time, on-budget delivery, Mad Doc team members are collectively
responsible for over 20 million units in the game market worldwide. Our
latest title, VUG’s Empire Earth® II, garnered a coveted PC Gamer
Editor’s Choice Award, a 94% review score, and was anointed “The New
King of Real-Time Strategy Gaming.” Currently, the team has several
titles in production.
With a staff that includes some of the most talented veterans in the industry, Mad Doc has provided AI consulting and development services to some of the world’s leading developers and publishers, including: Vivendi Universal Games, Microsoft, Activision, Inc., EA Games, and Midway Games, among others. In early 2000, Mad Doc opened its Lawrence, Massachusetts studio, assisting Activision in the successful completion of Star Trek®: Armada™, one of the biggest-selling Star Trek games of all time. With Dr. Davis at the helm, Mad Doc has been spearheading the development of major titles since.
By November 2001 Mad Doc completed Star Trek®: Armada II™ for Activision, adding true 3D play, greatly enhanced AI, and a host of other innovations to this profitable license. Star Trek ®: Armada II™ stands tall as one of the top selling Star Trek games of all time. To round out the year, the Mad Doc team also delivered a wireless-platform golf game to JAMDAT Mobile, as well as AI/Path Planning design for the sequel to a major publisher’s top-selling PC franchise.
Mad Doc completed the World War II flight simulator Jane’s® Attack Squadron in March 2002. A next generation flight combat simulation for the PC with superb terrain rendering, impressive pyrotechnics, and detailed target destruction, Jane’s Attack Squadron strike missions immersed players in the heat of the action, bringing the European Theater of Operations to life for flight sim veterans. In the fall of 2002 the team delivered Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest™, the official expansion pack for Gamespy.com's 2001 "PC Game of the Year," Empire Earth, to Sierra Entertainment. This Mad Doc title included new civilizations, new single-player campaigns, and significant new multiplayer functionality. The multiplayer improvements further enhanced Empire Earth's wide array of online gameplay options and offered greater flexibility to gamers competing via the Internet.
The year 2003 brought further success for Mad Doc. In November, Microsoft Game Studios released Dungeon Siege®: Legends of Aranna™. Mad Doc developed this expansion pack for Dungeon Siege, an action fantasy role-playing game created by Gas Powered Games featuring an immersive, fully 3-D environment. With new features and AI enhancements, Mad Doc made the journey more exciting than ever, garnering accolades and an Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences "Computer Role Playing Game of the Year” Finalist nod.
In the spring of 2005 the team released Empire Earth® II, the ambitious sequel to GameSpy.com's 2001 "PC Game of the Year," Empire Earth. Mad Doc delivered a host of innovations (advanced AI, enhanced environmental realism, new multiplayer modes, improved management systems, territories and more) all rolled into one of the best historical RTS games of all time. The game garnered a coveted PC Gamer Editor’s Choice Award, a 94% review score, was hailed as “The New King of Real-Time Strategy Gaming,” and released to critical acclaim in the US and abroad.
